Pricing for Senior Living Options

A common question I get asked is “is the price negotiable”.  Yes.  Almost every facility runs “specials”.  The specials can be free rent for a period of time, half off the community fee, no community fee, moving costs paid for and more.  When you visit a facility, they will tell you about their specials and tell you that this “price” is good for this week only.  That is simply not true 99% of the time.

At most facilities, I can tell you that the best deals are during the last week of the month.  It’s amazing what deals can be had if you take financial possession by the last day of the month.  There is a reason for it.  Census is the name of the game.  The salesperson needs to meet a goal for move-ins.  Their bonus or commission is based on meeting or exceeding that number.  In most facilities, the Executive Director or Manager is bonused in some sort of way as well. To be fair, all facilities have a budget and maintaining a certain percentage of occupancy is necessary.  It is a business.
