What is a Community Fee?

A Community Fee is a one time non refundable fee that almost every Independent Living, Assisted Living Center or Memory Care Facility charges.  Think of this fee as you would a one time HOA fee.  This money goes to replacing common area furniture, carpeting, appliances, transportation etc.  It is common to charge one month’s rent as the fee, but some are higher.  Many communities will negotiate this amount as part of an agreed move-in.  Some places will discount it, some will waive it, and some will let you pay it in installments.  ALWAYS ask to negotiate this fee.
