What is Home Care?
Home Care literally encompasses too many things to list. Generally, this care is private pay. Some persons, who have been deemed eligible for Medicaid, will receive these services at no cost. Here are the most common home care tasks:
Medication Management/reminders—this is the number one reason people need help! And no, Medicare does not pay for it.
Shower/bathing assistance
Dressing assistance
Fall Prevention
Ambulation Assistance
Preparing Meals
Companionship
Light housework
Assistance with eating
Dog walking/pet care
Incontinence Care
Grocery Shopping
Laundry
Grooming and Hygiene
You name it, there is someone who can do it. While some people hire private caregivers, I personally do not recommend this route for many reasons. First, if they call in sick, there is no back-up. 2nd, these individuals are not insured, bonded and certified.
If your loved one is needing this type of help, I recommend a licensed agency. I used to be an Administrator for this type of agency, so I know the good companies. Call me for names. You can typically expect to pay $18-25 an hour.
